Town of Leland announces proposed 2024-25 budget

LELAND, NC (WWAY) — The Town of Leland has released the proposed budget for fiscal year 2024- 2025.

“This plan underscores a new approach to the Town’s commitment to enhancing public safety, promoting street and transportation safety, encouraging community connectivity, continuing operational excellence, and sustaining economic vitality, while also ensuring fiscal responsibility and transparency,” a press release said.

The proposed $56 million budget reflects a tax rate of 39 cents per $100 value and includes the following highlights:

• $5.5 million towards road resurfacing projects, starting a 20-year lifecycle program to resurface
5% per fiscal year

• Five new Police patrol officer positions for a second peak demand shift

• Five new Fire positions to fully staff apparatuses and prepare for a new station

• Three new internal support positions: Deputy Town Clerk, IT Technician, and Fleet position

• Nine additional Police vehicles for replacement and new positions

• One Fire apparatus vehicle

• Phase two of the traffic signal backup power project in coordination with the NCDOT

• $2 million in emergency contingency funds

The Town encourages public participation in the budget process.

To help residents learn more about the proposed budget, Town staff will be holding a Budget Open House on March 5th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Town Hall, located at 102 Town Hall Drive. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about each department’s services and service improvement opportunities and speak to department leaders.
