LELAND, NC (WWAY) — The Town of Leland has called for a special meeting to discuss open burning.

The meeting comes after smoke was seen rising for hours today from a cleared development site off Highway 17, across the road from the entrance to Brunswick Forest.

A number of shops are coming to the area — including a Publix supermarket.
An advocacy group called  Better Government for Leland is calling for the resignation of the entire town council due to — what it claims is — the town’s failure for years to end developer burning.
Representatives with the group plan to attend the meeting, which will take place on Monday, October 20, at 6 p.m. at the Leland Cultural Arts Center at 1212 Magnolia Village Way.
