Town of Wrightsville Beach preps for Irma
WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — It’s a little calmer over in Wrightsville Beach, but that doesn’t mean things aren’t happening behind the scenes.
There are a lot of people enjoying these few days of sunshine on the beach but that isn’t stopping the town from preparing for the storm.
The Wrightsville Beach town manager, Tim Owens, said he is keeping a close eye on Irma’s path.
The town started preparations three or four days ago and will continue prepping during this hurricane season.
Owens said even though they have slowed down they are taking down lifeguard stands and putting plans in place.
He said if nothing else this is a good wake up call for those who might not be prepared.
It’s time to get those last minute items like generators, water and of course, having plans in place now.
“This time of the year I always watch the tropics, so until something passes us or doesn’t hit us, ya know I continue to watch it on a daily basis. I’m going to do the same for this one and ya know were just checking in on it from time to time,”Owens said.
He said the town has plans all year round for both evacuation and re-entry prep.
