Track when storm debris will be picked up in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Nearly a month after Hurricane Florence, the city of Wilmington says they have collected about 50% of debris.

According to a city spokesperson, as of Tuesday, crews have picked up 500,000 cubic yards which is already five times the amount picked up for Hurricane Matthew.

The city’s contractor DRC Services will not be picking up debris Thursday due to Michael, but will resume Friday and Saturday.

In total, the city expects to pick up between 1 to 1.2 million cubic yards total, not including any additional debris that may result from Hurricane Michael.

Barring any significant delays from Hurricane Michael, the city hopes to have a first pass of the entire city completed by the end of October and be finished other than minor clean up by the end of November.
