NEW DETAILS: Driver leaves scene of Market Street crash

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Police are investigating a Wilmington crash that sent two to the hospital Tuesday night.

It happened on Market Street near the intersection of Barclay Hills Drive. That’s where an officer said a vehicle going 45 MPH rear-ended another car, then the driver got out of the vehicle and took off from the scene.

Police said the two people in the vehicle that got hit were taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. They said officers later caught up with the owner of the car at fault, and said he tried to report his vehicle stolen following the crash.

Police said the person responsible for the crash will face a hit-and-run charge. WPD is still investigating.

The crash shut down traffic for several blocks on Market Street.
