Traffic stop leads to drug arrest in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Wilmington Police Department arrests a man on drug charges after a traffic stop on Friday.

According to a press release, officers conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of North 16th Street and Market Street just after 8:30 p.m.

The driver, Charles Earl Brown. 49, of Wilmington, was found to be operating a vehicle with a suspended license and in possession of an open container of alcohol.

During a search of the vehicle, officers located 18 pills that tested positive for cocaine. More narcotics were also discovered. In total, officers seized approximately 17 grams of cocaine/fentanyl from the vehicle and Brown’s possession.

He has been charged with Trafficking in Opium or Heroin, PWIMSD Cocaine, Felony Maintain Vehicle/Dwelling Controlled Substance, Driving While License Revoked Not Impaired, and Open Container Alcohol Violation. Brown received a $150,000 secured bond and is currently being held at the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center.
