Trial date set in Shannon Rippy murder case

WILMINGTON, NC (StarNews) — A man charged in the disappearance and presumed death of a missing Wilmington woman will be tried in the case in March, according to his attorney.

James Opelton Bradley, 52, is charged with first-degree murder in the presumed death of Shannon Rippy VanNewkirk, 53.

VanNewkirk was last seen leaving a downtown Wilmington bar about 4 p.m. April 5, 2014. When she failed to show up the following day for brunch with her mother and aunt, VanNewkirk’s family reported her missing.
