6 deadly crashes reported in NC over holiday weekend
NORTH CAROLINA (WWAY) — State troopers say seven motorists died on North Carolina highways during Memorial Day weekend.
Highway Patrol says between Friday at 6 p.m. and midnight Monday troopers investigated six deadly crashes on state highways, which resulted in seven deaths.
According to a news release, half of the deadly crashes were reported in the Cape Fear Region. Crashes were reported in Brunswick, Columbus, Pender, Polk, Mecklenburg and Montgomery counties. The crash that happened in the Hampstead area killed a Charlotte toddler.
Troopers say the number of total crashes that claimed lives this year is down from 2014, when troopers say they investigated 20 fatal collisions and more than 300 injury-related accidents.
