The National Hurricane Center downgraded Bonnie, which had become a tropical storm Saturday afternoon, to a tropical depression Sunday morning. Bonnie is the second named storm of the Atlantic season, which does not begin officially until Wednesday.

The system became stationary before making landfall and is expected to move into the Cape Fear region Tuesday morning. Tropical showers will be the main issue with some areas picking up as much as 2 to 4 inches of rainfall. Winds are not expected to be an issue, however there is a high risk for dangerous rip currents along the beaches of southeastern North Carolina.
