Trot Nixon raises awareness for WHAT at the Picnic with Purpose

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Fifth Quarter co-host Trot Nixon spoke at the “Picnic with Purpose” at the Blockade Runner in Wrightsville Beach today.

Nixon told his own story about his teenage years. The picnic brought awareness to “WHAT”. It is the Wilmington Health Access for Teens which places an emphasis on mental health, nutrition and preventive care for young adults.

WHAT plays a role as a safety net organization for the community. WHAT says nearly 80% of teens and young adults served are under or uninsured.

The marketing director for Port City Java Megan Mullins says she came to the luncheon to learn more about WHAT and to support the cause.

“I’m hoping to learn a little bit more about what Wilmington Health Access for Teens has been up to and how the year is going and other big projects they have coming up,” Mullins said “Teen health and education is very important. I mean that’s the future.”
