Trump targets Asheville as next campaign stop

Former President Donald Trump is choosing to visit Asheville – and North Carolina itself – on Wednesday, Aug. 14 for a reason.

With the presidential campaign getting into full swing, there is political strategy in spending time in a swing state.

Former President Donald Trump won North Carolina in both 2016 and 2020 by slim margins.

A mountain political expert says the state is very much in play this year, which is why Trump is coming.

North Carolina’s 16 electoral votes are up for grabs.

“The rural parts of the state have been getting redder and redder and redder while the urban parts of our state have been getting bluer and bluer and bluer,” Cooper said.

He says Trump will take his message straight into heavily-Democratic Asheville.
