Two 17-year-olds charged after death of NC infant

ASHEVILLE, NC (AP) — Police say two North Carolina teens are facing charges after the death of a 3-month-old child.

Local media outlets report two 17-year-olds are each charged with one felony count of involuntary manslaughter and child abuse.

Authorities say that on March 6 they left a child face down in a pillow where she was unable to breathe, resulting in brain damage. The teens were reported missing March 11 by a family member. Police located the pair Saturday at a campsite in Pisgah National Forest.

Authorities are still investigating, and Woodfin Police Detective David Plyer would not release information regarding the child’s relationship to either teen or when the child died.

The teens have been appointed public defenders and are due in court April 25.
