Two area hospitals ranked among the best in the state for maternity care, according to US News and World Report
LELAND, NC (WWAY) — Two area hospitals have been ranked among the best for maternity care in the country, according to US News and World Report.
New ratings for the best regional hospitals for maternity care and maternity care access throughout the US were revealed on Tuesday.
The ratings are based on the rate of c-sections performed, uncomplicated pregnancy rates, and several other factors.
This year, Novant Health’s New Hanover Regional Medical Center and Brunswick Medical Center are among the best hospitals in North Carolina.
Jennifer Winston, a health data scientist for U.S. News and World Report, spoke about why each hospital was recognized.
“Both Novant Health New Hanover Medical Center and Novant Health Brunswick Medical Center did achieve our high-performing recognition for maternity care,” Winston said. “In addition, Novant Health Brunswick Medical Center also received our maternity care access hospital designation, which means they’re providing care to their community that the people who live in that community might not have access to.”
Winston added that the rate of c-sections nationwide fell by 2%, a positive sign that hospitals are dealing with less severe pregnancies overall.
