Two arrested after high-speed pursuit ends in Columbus County

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A high-speed chase that began in Robeson County Friday night ended with two arrests in Columbus County.

29-year-old Dakota Lee McDonald and 25-year-old Sarah Hendren were arrested in Chadbourn after fleeing a traffic stop.

According to court documents, Hendren and McDonald reached speeds of more than 120 mph when they crossed into Columbus County.

The warrants state that during the pursuit Hendren failed to stop at a stop sign, passed vehicles in a no-passing zone and failed to maintain lane control before colliding with a tree.

The chase ended when Hendren collided with a tree.

McDonald is charged with possessing fentanyl, 2 counts of resisting public officer, and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia by the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office. North Carolina State Highway Patrol charged McDonald with one count of resisting public officer and one count of failure to wear a seat belt

Robeson County Sheriff’s Office charged Hendren with one count of flee/elude arrest with a motor vehicle, one count of resisting a public officer, one county of unsafe passing-oncoming traffic, failure to stop at a stop sign/flashing red light, speed in excess of 65 mph and failure to wear a seatbelt as a driver. North Carolina State Highway Patrol charged Hendren with reckless driving, wanton disregard, failure to maintain lane control, unsafe passing yellow line, and failure to wear a seatbelt.

Both are also facing felony charges from earlier in February including breaking or entering, larceny, and possession of stolen goods.

McDonald is being held without bond at Robeson County Jail, and his first court appearance was on Monday.

Hendren was released from jail Saturday on a $5,000 secured bond. Her next court date is February 27.
