Two Brunswick County schools to reopen for in-person learning Wednesday

BOLIVIA, NC (WWAY) — As Brunswick County continues recovering from Post Tropical Cyclone #8, there are some signs of a return to normalcy.
South Brunswick High School and South Brunswick Middle School will return for face-to-face instruction on Wednesday, October 2.
A statement from Brunswick County Schools says the district has repeatedly run simulation school bus routes and reviewed any impact that traffic delays would have on these routes.
Those simulations show that grades sixth through twelfth grade can return to school with minimal disruption. However, the district says it currently can’t account for the additional traffic that opening schools would cause, and continue to work with NCDOT to monitor traffic conditions in the Southport area.
Current data shows that any vehicles leaving Southport from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. face significant traffic delays.
Due to these delays, Southport Elementary School will remain on a full asynchronous remote learning schedule for the remainder of the week.
The district currently exploring all options to return for in-person instruction that are feasible with the current traffic issues in Southport, including a partial in-person school day.
