Two children killed in New Hanover County crash
WILMINGTON, NC (STAR NEWS) — Two children died Saturday in a crash on Interstate 140 near Wilmington, according to the N.C. Highway Patrol, Cammie Bellamy with the StarNews reports.
The accident happened at 12:51 p.m. Saturday on I-140, just west of I-40 near mile marker 19, Sgt. Patrick Sanders wrote in an email. A passenger car was traveling west on I-140 when it hydro-planed and ran off the right side of the road.
The car overturned and ended up partially submerged in a drain culvert.
Sanders identified the driver as Martha Holyfield of Willard. Holyfield’s children Brittany Holyfield,16, and Calvin Ennis, Jr., 7, were passengers in the car and died in the accident, Sanders said.
