Two kids died after falling through frozen pond in Onslow County

ONSLOW COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The Onslow County Sheriff’s Office said two kids died after falling into a frozen pond on Sunday.
Deputies responded to Mayberry Lane around 5:30 p.m. after receiving a call about two 7-year-old juveniles who had fallen into a frozen pond.
According to the sheriff’s office, a family member was able to pull one of the kids out of the pond prior to the arrival of first responders. The second kid was located and removed by emergency personnel.
Life-saving measures were performed immediately, and the children were transported to Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune where they later died.
“This is a heartbreaking day for our community,” said Sheriff Chris Thomas. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family as they face an unimaginable loss. We are also keeping our deputies, first responders, and everyone involved in this response in our thoughts, as incidents like this
affect all of us deeply.”
This incident was ruled an accident.
Multiple agencies responded including Richlands Police Department, Hargett’s Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department, Black Swamp Volunteer Fire Department, and Onslow County Emergency Services.
