CAROLINA SHORES, NC (WWAY) — Walmart is coming to the Town of Carolina Shores.

According to Carolina Shores Town Administrator Chad Hicks, Walmart submitted plans to the town in May for a 171,000 sq. ft. building on 25 acres of land off US 17 near Emerson Bay Rd.

The site plan also includes a gas station, drive-thru pharmacy and space for other commercial businesses.

The Planning Board approved the site plan at its June 10 meeting

All that needs to be done now is for Walmart to get permits from the state before construction can begin.

Hicks says another major retailer, Publix, has plans to build in Carolina Shores. He says the progress for that one is still in the early stages, as the plans still have to be submitted and approved by the planning board and council.
