Two people arrested on firearm charges following investigation

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Two people have been arrested on firearm charges.

The Wilmington Police Department says officers arrested a juvenile on Tuesday who was wanted for Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill and other related offenses for a gang related shooting that took place in another city.

After searching a house in the 1200 block of Wellington Avenue, police say 18-year-old Maleek Coutrier of Charlotte was found hiding in the bathroom. In addition, officers say they located more than 14 grams of fentanyl, guns, and cash.

Coutrier has been charged with Possession of a Weapon of Mass Destruction, Felony Possession of Stolen Firearms, RDO, Trafficking in Opium or Heroin, PWIMSD Schedule II Controlled Substance, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

He is being held at the NHCSO Detention Center without bond.

Additionally, police say Coutrier was involved in a shooting last month that took place on King Street.
