Two people shocked after crane hits power line at construction site on Market Street
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Two people were taken to the hospital after suffering an electric shock at a construction site Thursday afternoon.
The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office says a construction crew was operating a crane on a construction site between 8116 and 8128 Market Street when it hit a main power line, leading to an explosion.
NHSO says two construction crew members were injured.
In total, two live power lines were on the ground. Duke Energy responded to the scene cutting the power to them. The live lines were repaired and the power was restored.
EMS transported the two people to the hospital, but their conditions are unknown.
Duke Energy spokesperson Jeff Brooks says the power outage caused by the accident initially left 1,750 customers without power. Duke was able to reroute power to reduce the outage to 600 customers and restored power to everyone in a little over an hour.
