Two people face charges after a weapon was found at Hoggard High School.

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Two people face charges after a weapon was found at Hoggard High School.
The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office says it happened around 11 a.m.
School administrators received information that a 17-year-old female student may have a weapon on campus. She was brought to the school office, where she was interviewed and searched. Deputies say a weapon was found on the student.
She has been charged with possession of a weapon on school property and possession of a weapon by a minor.
Further investigation led authorities to Javeon Harvin, 22, who was located across the street from the school. Harvin faces multiple charges, including: Possession of a weapon on school campus, selling or giving a weapon to a minor, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and soliciting a minor to commit a misdemeanor.
WWAY has reached out to the school district for a statement, and the following is attributed to Superintendent Dr. Christopher Barnes:
A student was found to be in possession of a weapon at school. Thanks to the quick response of school staff and the on-campus School Resource Officer from the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, the situation was handled safely, swiftly, and without disruption to the school day. We are incredibly grateful for our strong partnership with the Sheriff’s Office and the support of their SRO unit.
Because the student involved is a minor, we are limited in the details we can share. However, I want to reassure you that all appropriate protocols were followed to ensure the safety of everyone on campus.
The safety, well-being, and education of our students remain our highest priorities. We are firmly committed to fostering learning environments that are safe, respectful, and free from disruption. Any behavior that jeopardizes this commitment, particularly incidents involving weapons or acts of violence, will not be tolerated. Those involved have been removed from campus and will be held responsible to the fullest extent of the law.
We deeply appreciate the vigilance and professionalism of our school staff and law enforcement partners, as well as the continued support of our families. Together, we will continue to work to ensure that every student learns and grows in a secure and supportive learning environment.
