Two people killed in early morning crash in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Two people were killed early Sunday morning following a crash in Wilmington, according to the Wilmington Police Department.

Officers responded to the 300 block of Willard Street around 1 a.m. and found a vehicle severely damaged and engulfed in flames. Firefighters from the Wilmington Fire Department helped put out the fire.

Police say both the driver and a passenger died at the scene as a result of their injuries. Their names have not been released pending notification of next of kin.

The crash remains under investigation.
