PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Two Topsail High School Marching Band students are heading to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Sophomore Samuel Casamalhuapa, a tenor saxophonist, and Senior Shayne Hughes, a seasoned clarinetist, will take part in the annual tradition.

“I am very thrilled to participate in the Macy’s Day Parade. I am grateful for the guidance, instruction, and opportunities I have been provided by the Topsail Marching Band,” Casamalhuapa said.

Hughes is returning for her third straight year marching in the New York City parade.

“My first year being accepted, I had no marching experience due to COVID-19,” Shayne said. Beyond the music, she’s explored NYC’s vibrant streets, watched Broadway shows, and enjoyed the Rockettes Christmas Spectacular.

The Topsail Marching Band says they take immense pride in Samuel and Shayne’s accomplishments, showcasing the dedication and talent within their program.
