Two Wilmington-based nonprofits host first ‘Mini Bowls’ fundraiser
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Two nonprofits are once again teaming up to help raise money for those in need.
Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard and the Good Shepherd Center collaborated for their first ever Mini Bowls event in the Cargo District on Saturday.
The two nonprofits sold bowls handmade by local potters and woodworkers to raise money for both organizations. Good Shepard Executive Director Katrina Knight said the event is a spinoff of their much larger Empty Bowls event that is held every year where soup is served to hundreds of people to raise money.
“Our potter community and our woodturners were so generous that we ended up with more bowls than we needed at that March event, and so today is just a little supplemental effort to raise funds,” Knight said.
Knight added that the bowls also serve as a symbolic reminder that many in our community face food insecurity.
