Two women walk to raise awareness for sex trafficking

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) —  Two women completed their journey from Gastonia to Wilmington Friday by foot to raise awareness for sex trafficking.

Their walk to freedom was all about spreading awareness and educating folks along the way about the harsh realities of sex trafficking and the people it effects.

“A lot of people kind of have that idea that these girls choose this for themselves,” said Patti Crawford. “I think that’s a huge stereotype that they choose, because there’s someone behind them that’s choosing for them. When the start age is between eleven and fourteen, they’re not choosing anything, ya know?”

The ladies say they are proud of their accomplishment, but that they hope this is only the first step in continuing the conversation.
