UNCW awarded $400K grant from EPA
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The University of North Carolina Wilmington was one of six universities awarded grant money to study ecological impacts of manufactured chemicals, among other topics.
According to a news release, the Environmental Protection Agency awarded almost $4 million to the six universities. UNCW received $399,884 for research to develop an estuarine and marine model for measuring ecological impacts of endocrine disrupting chemicals. UNCW was the only university in the state to receive the grant. Other recipients include University of California Santa Barabara, Harvard University, Michigan State University, Oregon State University and Texas Tech University.
The grants are part of the STAR program: Science to Achieve Results. It’s part of EPA’s Chemical Safety for Sustainability program.
