UNCW Board of Trustees approves tuition increase

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Some students at UNCW will see an increase in tuition and student fees next year. That’s after several unanimous decisions made by the university’s Board of Trustees this afternoon.

Incoming students starting in the Fall 2017 semester will see a two percent increase in tuition for in-state students and a one percent increase for out of state students.

In a presentation, Vice Chancellor for Business Affairs Rick Whitfield said that money will go toward things like increases in pay for faculty and staff, utilities and supplies, and investments to improve student outcomes.

The increase will not impact undergraduate students already attending UNCW.

“More importantly we involve our students on the committee and so they have input and the committee pays close attention to the responses of our students and those areas that are important to them when making these decisions,” said Whitfield.

Also approved were increases for graduate tuition and student fees. Student fees will go up just over two percent which is about $53.
