UNCW breaks ground on new residence hall to expand campus housing

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — UNCW is expanding its campus housing, breaking ground Friday on a new dormitory. Members of the UNCW campus community including students and members of the board of trustees gathered today to celebrate the start of construction on a new residence hall on Riegel road.

The ceremony included a first look at renderings showing the new building.

Kevin Meaney the Executive Director for Housing and Residence Life says the new dorm will help meet the demand as UNCW continues to grow.

“We don’t have a name yet. It’s going to be a pretty big hall though; five hundred forty beds, five stories tall. It’s going to go right here where the old Galloway Hall use to be…You know UNCW is growing, we need more beds on so this will help us provide housing for future classes of students,” said Meaney.
The new residence hall is expected to be completed in time for students to move in August of 2027.
