UNCW celebrates Homecoming

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — UNCW finished off their week long homecoming celebration this weekend with several events and activities to celebrate.

Saturday on the campus of UNCW students and alumni came back home to celebrate homecoming.

One of those events was the homecoming step show.

Among a packed crowd at Kenan Auditorium was WWAY’s Amanda Fitzpatrick who judged the competition.

Groups and fraternities from all over came to compete but it was also a chance for some to bring attention to their fraternity.

“It’s a big thing because we’re trying to promote what our fraternity is here. We don’t have hardly any brothers here so we’re trying to show the campus what Phi Beta Sigma is all about.” One member of the step group said.

Another event on campus was the Homecoming Teal-gate where students showed their school spirit and got ready for the big game.

They say between the events and the game, homecoming is great for students and alumni.

“Especially with how good the basketball team is doing, it’s great to have the alumni come out and keep them pumped up and hopefully go back to the tournament.” Payton Kilby said.

“I think it brings more support for the school in general.” Maddie Kinnisten said.

The night ended with the homecoming game between UNCW and Delaware.
