WILMINGTON, N.C. (WWAY) — The UNCW men’s soccer team dropped their season opener at home Thursday 2-1 to UMBC.

Despite dominating possession in the first half, the Seahawks allowed the ice breaker with less than three minutes left in the 1st half.

Midway through the 2nd, Wilmington’s Jake Shannon was taken down in the box and drew a penalty kick that Ethan Newsome converted to tie the game.

The Retrievers responded as Gunder Miller scored the game winner with under five minutes to go.
