UNCW falls to Elon in PK’s during CAA semifinals

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WWAY) — After breezing through league play without a loss, UNCW women’s soccer fell to Elon to end their CAA tournament run in the semifinals on Sunday.
The game was scoreless after double overtime and the Phoenix won in penalty kicks 6-5.
UNCW opted to put freshman Zoe Anderson in net for the penalty kicks, replacing Morgan Hobbs after she did not give up a single goal during all 110 minutes of game time. Elon stuck with keeper Katie Bisgrove throughout after accomplishing the same feat.
After all strikers converted in the first five rounds, Isabel DiPrima scored to give Elon the 6-5 lead. The Seahawks then sent out Hailey Longwell, who’s shot hit the crossbar and bounced backwards away from the net to end the match.
This marks the second time in five years that UNCW claimed the regular season CAA title only to lose in the semifinals of the conference tournament.
