UNCW hosts Brick by Brick program, students get hands on experience
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — UNCW hosted students from Lincoln Elementary School on Thursday, giving them a closer look at sea creatures and higher education.
Brick by Brick is a non-profit program run by two UNCW graduates looking to give back to the younger generation of future professionals.
Thursday’s field trip was a lesson on what’s down below. Students dissected fish, visited a coral lab, and familiarized themselves with sea life.
Marcus Fargale is Brick by Brick’s Program Head. He said this program teaches the kids a lot about the world around them, while also setting them up for success.
“I try to instill good order and discipline with them through physical fitness and mentorship as well as giving them an opportunity to express themselves and how they feel,” Fargale said.
Fargale said the kids mainly enjoyed the shellfish hatchery, possibly enticing some to study marine biology one day.
