UNCW hosts VR day

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Today at the UNCW Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, people got the chance to test all the latest virtual reality technology.

It was a whole new world without going anywhere.

A company named Expect VR teamed up with UNCW students to hold a virtual reality day to bring the latest and greatest technology from the VR world right to the people of Wilmington.

“I believe VR will become very mainstream, especially over the holidays and going forward.” Director and Producer of Expect VR, Christina Chapra, said.

Guests got to try out the new Samsung Gear VR and PlayStation VR devices.

Expect VR wanted people to come and try out this technology that has been sweeping the nation.

For some of the people, this was the first time they experienced virtual reality and they were really surprised with what happened behind the lenses.

When they put on the goggles, they were immersed into a world they’ve never experienced.

“You feel as if, I was in a skate park next to the guys,” Thomas Frato said. “To have them coming at you it was like ‘oh wow they are like right there’.”

“It did feel real,” Barbara Akinwole said. “As a matter of fact, as the basket was descending, I almost felt like a weightlessness as if I were floating.”

As cool as the scenes were on the screens, the reactions off screen were even better.

It appears the virtual reality technology lived up to the hype and expectations of those in attendance.
