WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — USEFULL, a company whose mission is to get rid of plastic and use reusable takeout solutions, says UNCW is the first higher education institute in the state to take part in the mission.

UNCW implemented a completely plastic-free reuse program for its residential campus takeout dining.

The university replaced their previous method of a plastic container reuse program with USEFULL’s stainless steel container system.

USEFULL says their containers provide a more environmentally friendly alternative to plastic.

“Implementing USEFULL will help UNCW realize real savings and true reuse within dining operations,” said Feletia Lee, chief sustainability officer, UNCW. “Our students benefit from an elevated dining experience that’s better for their health and helps them become advocates for reuse and waste reduction.”

The containers are available at Wagoner and The Shore dining halls for students to check them out using their campus ID cards for free. There are fees for late returns or damaged containers.
