UNCW opens new Discovery Hall ahead of ribbon cutting next month
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — UNCW’s new library expansion opened for the first time Thursday ahead of a ribbon cutting ceremony on Sept 25.
The new Discovery Hall is connected to the older Randall Library, which received extensive renovations.
The nearly 90,000 sq ft. library includes expansive new study space, state of the art meeting rooms, research labs, a podcast and video recording studio, and the new Center for Southeast North Carolina Archives and History.
Dean of the UNCW Library Lucy Holman said the library is open to both students and anyone who lives in the area.
“Part of our decision to move the front door to face College Road was to really engage the community, and so we hope to have a lot of events that will be open to the public,” she said.
The library is also home to the WWAY News Archive, which features news stories going back to 1982.
