UNCW picks up first road win of the season


WILMINGTON, NC (UNCW)– Nick Feight doubled twice, homered and drove in four runs as UNCW raced past Campbell, 11-4, on Wednesday at Jim Perry Stadium.

UNCW picked up its first road win of the season and improved to 16-9. The Camels, meanwhile, saw their record drop to 16-15.

Whitman Barnes (1-0) picked up the win in relief, striking out two in 1.1 innings.

Campbell starter Wes Noble (1-1) struck out five, but allowed three runs over his five innings of work.

Joining Feight with big nights at the plate were Brian Mims and Robbie Thorburn with three hits apiece. Mims and Thorburn both scored twice and drove in one. Casey Golden connected on a two-run home run, his second of the season.

Matt Parrish and Adam Wyse had two hits apiece for Campbell and Parrish belted his second home run of the season.

Up next: The Seahawks close out their road stretch with three games at William & Mary, beginning on Friday at 6 p.m.

Home Runs: UNCW – Golden (off Messer in the sixth inning, one on, one out); Feight (off Yarem in the eighth inning, none on, one out); Campbell – Parrish (off Magestro in the eighth inning, none on, none out)

How it happened: Campbell narrowed its deficit to 3-2 in the fifth, but the Seahawks answered with three runs in the top of the sixth. Feight doubled in a run and Golden plated Feight with a homer to left one batter later for a 6-2 lead.

Notes: UNCW won for the 11th consecutive time in Buies Creek … Brian Mims extended his hitting streak to five games with his third three-hit game of the season … Steven Linkous went 2-for-6 with two runs batted in and a stolen base while pushing his team-leading hitting streak to seven games … The Seahawks used nine pitchers on the night and issued just two walks while striking out 12.
