UNCW Police help with UNC protest over Confederate statue

RALEIGH, NC (WWAY) — UNCW Police went to Chapel Hill Thursday night to help with the latest round of protests over a confederate statue.

Supporters and opponents of the “Silent Sam” statue, which was toppled last week, converged again on the UNC campus.

A spokeswoman says six UNCW officers went to help as part of a UNC system-wide agreement and at the request of UNC police.

The school does not yet know if there will be any overtime expenses for the officers.
