UNCW asks Wilmington for more money for Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — At this morning’s City Council agenda briefing, UNCW Chancellor Zito Sartarelli, joined by two leaders from the Center of Innovation and Entrepreneurship presented council with an update on how they are doing. It has been about three years since the center first opened its doors in the fall of 2013.
The center introduces their new director Diane Durant today.
According to leaders, the center now has 24 tenants and 6 more are in development. They said last year they hosted 70 events, which is up from about one event a month when they first started.
Council did raise some questions about the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship asking to see financial statements to see how well the center is moving toward self sufficiency. Councilman Kevin O’Grady asked if the center should still be something the tax payers are supporting or if it is time the university took it over completely.
Sartarelli agreed to show council the financial records at a future meeting.
