UNCW Skim Club hosts a contest in Wrightsville Beach
WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH (WWAY) — The UNCW Skim Club held a skimboarding contest today free and opened to all ages down at the south end of Wrightsville Beach.
Over 20 people competed for the top title, but Club President Kyle Willcox says there is really no competition in between the competitors.
Skimboarders from all over eastern Carolina traveled for this event and says it has a great vibe.
Willcox says, “When a skimboarder sees another skimboarder, you’re just like hey we both doing kind of unique sport let’s hang out and talk about it.”
This was one of many skim contest the club has held. Willcox says the beaches here in southeastern North Carolina are welcoming and it’s important to have this event because you can meet other skimmers and continuing to grow the sport.
