UNCW students return for another fall move-in

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — UNCW students are preparing to start school on Monday, October 8. Some students say it feels like a repeat of move-in day, after Hurricane Florence hit the university forcing students out for weeks.

The university accrued $140,000,000 in damage to the campus from Florence. But, some students are finally able to return back to their dorms.

One student says she was ready to return.

“We were out for longer than we’ve been here to begin,” said UNCW Freshman Anna Harris, UNCW. “We were worried about our classes like are we going to have to come on Saturdays? Are we going to lose part of Christmas break? But so far we haven’t lost too much time…”

The revised academic calendar has the last day of classes scheduled for December 7, which was initially scheduled for December 5. Thanksgiving break was not impacted by school closures.

In a statement by the university, the university will not allow access to Belk Hall or University Apartments for the next couple of days as continued repairs and services are complete.
