UNCW sweeps Elon in volleyball as season winds down for Seahawks
WILMINGTON, NC (UNCWSPORTS.COM) — Senior Alyssa Desjardins‘ double-double of 20 assists and 12 digs pushed her over the 1,000 career-dig plateau as UNCW swept visiting Elon 3-0 (25-16, 28-26, 25-19) on Monday at Hanover Hall.
The Seahawks, who ran their record in sweeps to 7-3, improve to 16-11 overall and 6-9 in the Colonial Athletic Association while the Phoenix dipped to 17-14 and 3-11.
Desjardins became just the third Seahawk to surpass the 2,500 assists and 1,000 digs mark, joining Sheldon Plentovich (1989-92) and Ginger Moon (1993-96). The double-double was the 12th double-double of her season and the 38th of her career.
Ebony Scott and Kam Terry tied for match-high honors with 11 apiece for Elon. Setter Sydel Curry finished with 37 assists and 12 digs for the double-double.
How it happened: Elon committed 28 hitting errors and hit just .122 on the match. UNCW finished with a 10.5-6 advantage in blocks.
Notes: UNCW finished off a season sweep of the Phoenix and have won their eighth straight in the series … The second set saw 11 tie-scores and four lead changes … UNCW committed just one service error for the second time this season … UNCW’s 106 attacks were the fourth fewest this season and the Seahawks are 3-1 in those matches.
