WILMINGTON, N.C. (WWAY) — An annual event is set to return featuring UNCW men’s soccer that will benefit local charities.

“Harry’s Game” will pit the hosting Seahawks against Wake Forest in an exhibition match. That will take place Sunday at 4 p.m. The event is name after UNCW Head Coach Aidan Heaney’s son, who has Down Syndrome, and has been held since Harry was an infant.

Charities that the proceeds will go toward include Coastal B.U.D.S. and the New Hanover County Special Olympics. Nice causes for sure, but it is even more personal for Heaney.

“Of course it is,” Heaney said. “When you have a son or daughter who has some intellectual challenges or disabilities, you see and you get to know their friends. Then it’s just these layers you keep adding to the group of people we’re able to connect with as a program and amongst their family too. Personally it’s very rewarding to see some of the connections we’ve built over the years.”

Online and live auctions will be held with items such as the players’ jerseys available to bid on in order to raise money.
