UNCW Track and Field fundraises at home meet
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Saturday was the UNCW track and field team's first home meet of the season against Coastal Carolina.
After Interim Chancellor William Sederburg announced they would cut the teams after the 2015 season, the team started fundraising, then only a few weeks ago Sederburg decided to give the team another chance to raise money to fund another season.
Roy Love started the website Save UNCW Track to help the team raise money. Love was at the meet today continuing to do so.
"It's about childhood obesity, it's about gender equality. It's about the fact that men and women can be together," Love said. "It's about economical development for Wilmington. It's a lot more than just the track team."
As of March 5th, the organization has raised just under $50,000.
There will be a Save UNCW Track and Field team 5k in April 26th at Trysports Wilmington.
