UNCW to open Trask Coliseum to watch Seahawks in NCAA Tournament


WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Can’t make it to Florida to watch the UNCW Seahawks play in the NCAA Tournament this week? You can still be part of the excitement and join hundreds of fellow fans watch as UNCW takes on the Virginia Cavaliers in the first round of the “Big Dance.”

UNCW is hosting a NCAA March Madness Celebration and watch party at Trask Coliseum Thursday. Doors open at 11:40 a.m.  Tip-off is set for the game, which will be played at the Amway Center in Orlando, 12:40 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

Concessions will be available for purchase and free pizza and water will be available for students and staff with valid UNCW ID.

The Seahawks are coming off a second straight CAA Tournament Championship. The team found out last night about its NCAA match-up with the Cavaliers. UNCW is the 12th seed in the NCAA’s East Regional. Virginia is seeded fifth. The winner takes out either Florida or East Tennessee State, which face off in the 3-14 match-up later Thursday afternoon.

UNCW hosted a watch party for last year’s NCAA game, as well. Kevin Keatts’s squad was in Providence, RI, where they led then defending national champion Duke before falling late.
