UNCW women’s golf team preparing for 16th annual Landfall Tradition

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — An annual tournament that’s been supporting UNCW scholarships and golf programs since 2002 is back for its 16th year this weekend.

The Landfall Tradition brings 18 top women’s teams to Wilmington to complete in a three-day tournament. This year, teams will include four of the nation’s top ten ranked teams and seven of the top twenty.

Seven different conferences will be represented with five teams each from the Atlantic Coast and Southeast conferences and four from the Big Ten. Participating teams, besides UNCW, include Alabama, Florida, Duke, Furman, South Carolina Central Florida, Clemson, Kentucky, LSU, Michigan, Michigan State, NC State, Notre Dame, Oklahoma State, Penn State, Purdue, and Virginia.

Last year, the tournament had the most exciting finish yet, with three-time winner Wake Forest and South Carolina ending tied after three days of regular play. For the first time in Tradition history, the tie was broken by comparing fifth player scores from Saturday play, giving South Carolina their first win.

The tournament begins on the Dye Course at Landfall Country Club at 8:30 a.m. on both Friday and Saturday and at 9 a.m. on Sunday.

The event is completely free to watch. For more information on the Landfall Tradition, click here.
