UNCW’s C.J. Gettys to transfer to Rutgers for his final season

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Back in April we told you UNCW center C.J. Gettys intended to leave the Port City in order to play basketball somewhere else. Click here for the story we aired in April.

Today the @RHoopsRecruits Twitter site reported that C.J. Gettys made a verbal commitment to Rutgers during a visit to the New Jersey campus. Gettys graduated from UNCW a few weeks ago. He’ll be eligible to play at Rutgers right away due to the NCAA graduate transfer rule. In his junior season at UNCW Gettys averaged 5 point a game and 5 rebounds a game.

Rutgers is not deep at the center position; therefore, this may be a good fit for Gettys. His biggest challenge will be having to make the transition from being a role player on the best team in the CAA to being a role player on one of the cellar dwellers in the Big Ten.
