UNCW’s Sarah Davis earns CAA Pitcher of the Week

RICHMOND, Virginia (UNCWSports.com) – After leading UNCW to a berth in the Colonial Athletic Association Softball Championship, senior pitcher Sarah Davis has been named as a co-recipient of the league’s final Pitcher-of-the-Week award for the 2018 season.

Davis, who earned the first weekly award of her career, shares the distinction with Delaware senior Jordan Cargile.

The CAA Pitcher-of-the-Week honor caps an outstanding weekend for the Burlington, N.C., product, who led the Seahawks to a three-game sweep over the College of Charleston. Davis posted a 2-0 record with an impressive 0.58 earned run average, allowing one earned run over 12.0 innings with nine strikeouts.

Davis helped UNCW earn a 2-1 victory in eight innings in Friday’s series opener, giving up one unearned run on six hits in a complete game effort while adding six strikeouts.

With the Seahawks’ CAA Tournament hopes on the line, Davis returned to the circle on Saturday just hours after participating in UNCW’s Commencement Exercises and earned the win in the Seahawks’ 2-1 triumph over the Cougars. She gave up one run while scattering four hits over the first 4.0 innings while adding three strikeouts.

Davis, who ranks second on the team with 24 appearances this season, is tied for the team lead with six victories while authoring a 3.98 earned run average. She also paces the UNCW pitching staff with 81 strikeouts in 89.2 innings.

UNCW, which closed the regular season with a 19-27 record, opens the CAA Tournament as the No. 4 seed on Wednesday and will face Charleston in the opening game of the tournament at 11 a.m. at James Madison’s Veterans Memorial Park.
