Update: House fire on Castle Hayne Rd started in attic

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY)– Deputy fire marshal Raymond Griswold says the house fire on Castle Hayne Road is an electrical fire that started in the attic.

Griswold says there was one woman in the home at the time who was trying to find the source of the smoke. Then two other people drove by and saw the smoke as well and drove back to help.

Griswold says the two travelers helped the woman call 911, because she was having trouble. He says it took crews 25 minutes to knock the fire out.

New Hanover County Sheriff’s deputies blocked off Castle Hayne Road beginning at the intersection of Castle Hayne and McDougald Dr while crews responded.

No injuries were reported, but Griswold says there is about $75,000 in damage.
