UPDATE: Rocky Point man should get missing package very soon

ROCKY POINT, NC (WWAY) — An email from the Greensboro U.S. Post office says a package that’s been missing for a month should arrive on one Pender County man’s doorstep very soon.

In early July, Wes Linton mailed away for a wireless USB adaptor from a company in Ohio. More than 25 days later, Linton is still waiting.

“I have no idea if or when it will ever get here,” he said.

Tracking records show the package with the wireless device has been to Durham, Greensboro, Lake Junaluska, Asheville, Fayetteville and Raleigh. Almost everywhere except where it should be.

“It’s more like a ‘Where’s Waldo,’ because I kind of laugh every time I check on to see where it’s at today.,” Linton said.

Linton says when the package was shipped, there was a problem with the ZIP code. That is why it has yet to be delivered.

“There was an extra number in the ZIP code, so somewhere arbitrarily one number was taken out,” Linton said.

The package was taken out of service in Lake Junaluska, because it could not be delivered. The postmaster in Rocky Point called that office to request it be postmarked again with the correct information about ten days ago.

“Well, supposedly they did that, but it hasn’t gotten here yet,” Linton said.

Until it does arrive, Linton has to use wires to connect to the Internet.

“It hasn’t been a big inconvenience, but it’s not here,” he said.

Tracking records the package was in Charlotte Monday.

Carl Walton, a communications coordinator with the Greensboro District, U.S. Postal Service sent this statement:

“The package in question was reported missing and eventually identified as having the incorrect city and Zip Code, as no such address existed in the city it was addressed to, far on the other side of the state past Asheville. It was in our Return to Sender system when we were initially notified by the customer that it was not delivered when he expected it, and it took us some time to retrieve it from that system in Charlotte.

Our protocol calls for the package to be re-entered into the system and sent to the processing facility in Fayetteville, for further processing and dispatch to Rocky Point for delivery. We apologize for the inconvenience, and expect to locate the package within 24-48 hours and deliver directly to the customer.”
