UPDATE: Teen who led police on chase, hid in tree faces more charges
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Wilmington teen who led police on a chase and then hid out in a tree Thursday night now faces more charges.
Police say it happened when officers were patroling in the area of 10th and Dawson Streets around 7:30 p.m. That's when they say they spotted suspicious people nearby.
When police approached one of the men, they say he took off on foot. Police and K-9 units set up a perimeter and searched for the suspect for about 30 minutes before they found him hiding in a tree.
Police say they arrested the 16-year-old, and then found a semi-automatic pistol and bullet in his jacket pocket that he had ditched nearby before climbing the tree.
The teen is charged with resisting arrest, carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a firearm by a minor.
We are told that this arrest is not related to the earlier shooting of a deputy in the Creekwood Community.
